Physiotherapy



 

Physiotherapists in Educational Services have a vital role in assessment, treatment and management of students with special needs, to achieve appropriate therapeutic and educational goals. This is achieved by:

  • - Prescription and monitoring of  suitable mobility equipment for pupils 
  • - Provide mobility and gait training
  • - Enhance gross motor skills through specific training targeted at improving strength, endurance, balance and coordination


Programmes offered are:-

  • - The therapy is delivered on one to one basis as well as in groups in the class. The other programmes offered are hydrotherapy, soft play therapy and horse riding programmes.

  • - Home visits are carried out along with other professionals to assess the home environment for mobility and recommend necessary environmental modification and adaptation.

  • - The Physiotherapist’s role encompasses educating the teachers, teacher aides, volunteers and caregivers in the management of physical challenges faced by the pupils.

  • - The therapists share the specific classroom strategies with the teachers/ aides to promote transference of skills by pupils in the classroom to achieve their functional goals.
